Magical Mystery Tour 2010

The Myths and Legends Magical Mystery Tour 2010 was an adventure like no other! The Gods themselves came to witness this event, in the form of 2nd Baulkham hills Rovers who won First Place and Best Dressed by getting toga-ether in their Toga’s! The Legendary Berowra Bogans came Second Place, and Third Place went to the Mythical Razorlake Rovers.

How did they do it? Where did it happen and what can we expect next year?

This year there were 16 teams voyaging in a variety of vehicles (no mopeds) starting at Thornleigh and ending at Bangalee Scout Camp near Nowra. Participants spent the day following encrypted clues to each check point where they got fed and watered and took part in Mermaid Chariot Racing, Myth Busters Trojan Horse and attempted to turn water into wine!

Best dressed individual was Newbie from BrushPark who won an iPod Shuffle for his efforts. Honourable mention goes to Turramurra for retrieving a Frisbee from a roof using an unconventional bus method, in a failed attempt to skip an activity.

At the conclusion of the fashion parade and presentations, the night descended into a gala of memorable merrymaking and musical entertainment provided my Normo Rovers very own Sam and Em Bennet.

Next year: To The Pub!!

Not a Moot 2010 wrap

A very muddy weekend was enjoyed by all who attended the now annual Not a Moot weekend away at Strike a Light Campsite in the Myall River State Forest, just past Bulahdelah on July 31/August 1. Normanhurst would like the thank Crews from Turramurra, Kissing Point, Epping, Berowra (they heard it was free), Brush Park and Mt Colah for a fun and safe weekend.

Navigation and orienteering skills being a slight disadvantage for many a Rover who attended, making a three hour drive take on average six. Demanding activities on the camp included sleeping in, a spit roast, four-wheel driving and trail bike riding. The fiercely contested Saturday night spit-off proved Turramurra to emerge victorious and an honourable mention going to Kissing Point with a masterchef masterpiece of a curry. However, Tom ‘Dickman’ Hickman from Mt Colah took the overall prize as the Not a Moot winner with a valiant effort to claim the title with a memorable three at once approach to the competition. We’re all looking forward to Mt Colah hosting another great weekend next year.

Normanhurst would also like to advise Berowra to invest in a ‘If you can read this I’ve lost my trailer’ sticker to remind them to bring everything home with them next time.

Thanks for a fun and safe weekend,

The Not a Moot Gods

Dirty Balls – Kalang Cup 2010

Congratulation to Gordon Rovers for wining the Highly Prized Kalang Kup! It was a tight competition held under blue winter skies on Sunday June 20th, but in the end the newest Crew in the Region proved victorious!

Honorable mention to Mona Vale for coming in second. The team colours and Brazilian enthusiasm were very impressive – much like I’m sure the coming Snow Moot will be.

Thanks to all the eight teams, players and supporters that got amongst it – can’t wait till next year!

Look out for other Normo Productions

Year of 2009

2009 was a great year for normo rovers, spurred on by young blood and new leadership, we were more active and involved, both as a crew and within the region. Resulting in extra fun for all, so here is just a few of the highlights of 2009 for your browsing pleasure.

Fun was had by many (dirty hippies) at events such as Berowra rovers Tradies moot.

Hanging out with Berowra and Mt Colah/Kuring-Gai and the first (hopefully annual) Hornsby District Camp.

Celebrating our Kalang cup win by dunking hooders in a wheelbarrow of ice.

Showing off our cans at hike for hunger.

Celebrating a return to form for Magical Mystery tour.

And for an unlucky few sailing the Whitsundays as an end of year punishment.

As a result of our efforts we were awarded crew of 2009 at the NSW Rover Ball. So congratulations to the crew for a great year, I can only hope that this year will be as fun as the last.

Magical Mystery Tour 2009

It began as usual with a Maccas invasion. Rovers from across the state armed themselves with McMuffins and Hash Browns and descended on the car park to begin the whimsical journey known as Magical Mystery Tour.

This year’s theme, ‘The Variety Hour’ had teams dressing up as their favourite TV characters, ranging from some sharply dressed suits off ‘Boston Legal’ to rather impressive Dalek from ‘Dr Who’. Following cryptic clues of misdirection, teams journeyed north to the first stop at Macmasters Beach, where they performed ‘Baywatch’ style rescue too save their well loved team mascots much to the amusement of a few beach going locals.

Cruising on teams then reached the lunch stop on Lake Macquarie where they undertook an action filled ‘MacGyver’ rescue using only their mullets and whatever happened to be lying around, before continuing on to the third stop at Paterson to solve a series of murders ‘CSI’ style. Having solved numerous mysteries and rescued more than their fair share of the inflatable population, teams embarked on the final leg of their journey, coming to rest at Lostock Scout Camp. It was here that competitors settled in for a night of fun and dancing. Musical entertainment was provided by Normanhurst’s own Sam and Emily Bennett, Epping’s Cameron Wheatley and his band “The Canary”, and DJ Spesh from Mount Cola Mount Ku-Ring-Gai.

Congratulations go to the winning team “The MOP” and a huge thankyou goes out to all that attended for helping to make the weekend such a success! Thank you also to Kennard’s Hire Artarmon, Big Fun, Gloria Jeans Cherrybrook, Civic Video Cherrybrook, Oakhill Meats Cherrybrook, IGA Cherrybrook, Beecroft Village Fruit Shop, Video Easy Hornsby, Greater Union Hornsby, Australia Post Hornsby and Thornleigh, Franklins Pennant Hills, Pennant Hills Bakery, Brumbies Thornleigh, Peats Meats Thornleigh, All Camping Supplies Thornleigh and Bunnings Thornleigh for their generous contributions.

We look forward to next year’s Magical Mystery Tour and hope you’re all there to share in the fun.

Kalang Cup 2009

Normo … Victorious. Now thats what we like to here.

Props go to Kat, ally, carny, nicky, jangles, mitch and hooders for bringing home the trophy.

Berowra for organising the day as well as all the other crews for a friendly day of competition.
